Puerto Vallarta Airport (PVR) Taxi Service

Official Puerto Vallarta taxis charge a hefty fee, but there are cheaper taxis just around the corner.

Head out of the airport and to your left, then take the pedestrian bridge to or over the highway (over the highway if heading north to Bucerias). There you can hire a yellow cab for much less than the Puerto Vallarta Airport taxis, but you will need to negotiate your Puerto Vallarta Airport transfer fare with the driver.

Here's the trick: As these taxis wait across the road, they are facing north. If you want to go south (downtown, hotel zone), they have to turn around by driving to the Central Bus Station which, they claim, is another fare zone. In the end, savings are only about MXN 20.

Throngs of taxi touts will shout at you, trying to get your attention, to convince you to take their cab. Don't.

Cash Up Front
There is absolutely no reason for you to pay the fare to your Puerto Vallarta taxi driver before you get in the cab, so don't fall for this one.

Ripoff Return Trip
You need NEVER pay for your return trip when you are dropped off at your hotel. You can ignore whatever the driver may say about taxis being hard to find when returning to the Puerto Vallarta Airport. It's a cash grab scam. There are a lot of taxis around town and you will have no problem getting to the airport for a lot cheaper than the cash now scam -- if the driver even shows up!

Time Shares
Beware of timeshare scams at Puerto Vallarta Airport. You may receive offers of free transportation as it is a lure to have you look at a timeshare.

Better Accommodation
If your Puerto Vallarta Airport taxi driver tells you that your hotel a poor choice, or is even closed, it's an attempt to earn a commission by taking you elsewhere.
