If you are stuck at the WAW Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport between filights why not hop on the city shuttle and head into town to find out more about your layover city! A major historical area, Warsaw has a lot to offer that will be interesting to anyone preferring to leave the airport for a bit of adventure.

UNESCO world heritage sites

Warsaw's old town, which was completely destroyed during World War II, was quickly rebuilt in the following years, and is not a world heritage site worth visiting. The royal castle, located at the entrance to Old Town, is also a UNESCO world heritage site and, as the official residence of the Polish Monarchs, should be at the top of the list of places to see. For a history of the region visiting the Warsaw uprising Museum is a worthwhile experience, and for a taste of nature visiting one of the many parks inside and around the city should also be considered.

Warsaw uprising Museum

If you are interested in the history of Warsaw, there is no better place to visit than the Warsaw Uprising Museum, which features life under Nazi rule with heart-stopping sound effects helping to set the scene. You can also visit a replica radio station, or a covert printing press. A short film depicts the first month of battle, before which visitors get to clamber through a mock sewer.

The next sections introduce the creation of a Soviet puppet state, a hall of remembrance, and an emotional display entitled Death of the City. The black and white ‘before and after’ shots of famous Warsaw landmarks are worth sticking around to see.

You can also explore an exact replica of a B24 Allied aeroplane which was used to make supply drops over the besieged city. This is a fascinating tour through history and will keep both children and adults interested throughout.

Imola Go-Kart and Paintball

You have been on a long dull flight and are now looking for a little excitement? Well the Imola Go-Kart and Paintball is the place to be. Here you'll find new cars which all have the potential to go 70 kilometers per hour. The track has been reconstructed, allowing better conditions for the drivers and full viewing for the crowd cheering them on. You can also If you are a classic car lover you can also spend some time marvelling at the collection of classic Mercedes 107 SL, which are available for sale or rent.

Shopping

In Warsaw you have the luxury of modern and convenient shopping centres or the old world charm of seeking out smaller more intimate shops tucked away in back streets. The former gives you the chance to feed your desire for the latest in international trends and fashions, while the latter could lead you down a path to treasures and souvenirs your may never have considered had you not chosen to explore. If you want to get a feel for the real Warsaw, shopping in small backstreet shops will set you on the right track.

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to WAW Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport in time for your connecting flight. Enjoy your transit city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your luggage in the departures lounge.
