Kuala Lumpur Airport Car Rental Desk Locations

The Kuala Lumpur Airport offers a large selection of car rental companies and the majority of operators can be found at the Kuala Lumpur Airport Arrivals concourse, both day and night, with individual counters. Pre-booking ensures that you get the exact make and model of vehicle that you desire and it also often ensures more competitive rates than those available on-the-spot at Kuala Lumpur Airport. Rental desks are located on the Ground Level of the terminal's Block D, within the covered parking area.

IMPORTANT: KLIA1 or KLIA2? Make sure you know which terminal your flight is arriving at, or departing from: KLIA1 or KLIA2. The latter, klia2, the new low-cost carrier terminal, is located 2 kilometres (1.2 miles) from away from KLIA1, the main terminal building (MTB). The transportation hub at the integrated "airport-within-a-mall" complex, Gateway@klia2, links KLIA2 to the Express Rail Link (ERL) (also known as KLIA Ekspres), with allotted pickup and drop-off areas for rented vehicles.

For more information, refer to the KLIA2 Passenger Guide.

All Kuala Lumpur Airport rental cars are automatic transmission.

Your local drivers' licence is required.

An International Drivers' Permit (or IDP) may be required, especially if your local drivers' licence is in a language other than the local language (you may inquire when you pick up your car).

Kuala Lumpur Driving Stress Level: 7/10

Driving around the city of Kuala Lumpur can be difficult at best, with traffic congestion and a confusing network of expressways and inadequate signposts. Local drivers are known for being somewhat reckless and accident levels here are particularly high.

The best places to park around Kuala Lumpur are the covered car parks around the city centre. Alternatively, many people choose to park outside of the downtown district and walk in, with a number of nearby areas suitable for parking. Worth noting, do avoid parking on the streets around the busiest districts, such as Bangsar, where cars are regularly blocked in by double parking.

DRIVING TO KLIA2: From the KLIA toll plaza, head towards KLIA. There is a slip road on the KLIA Expressway that will take visitors straight to klia2. Passengers coming from KLIA must head towards KL and U-turn at the flyover just before the Petronas Station then take the slip road to klia2 on the left side.
