Edmonton Airport is 26 kilometres from the centre of Edmonton, so make sure you have the time to enjoy your transit city before you decide to head away from the airport. There is a good choice of ground transport companies to help you get to your destination of choice.

Valley Zoo

With a huge focus on conservation and home to over 350 animals, Valley Zoo is the perfect family layover activity. With all sorts of interactive activities, exhibits, rides and educational programs, there will be something to keep everyone happy until you have to head back to the airport. Located in the centre of Edmonton, Valley Zoo is easily accessible by Edmonton Transit.

Telus World of Science

If flying through the earth’s atmosphere is a little too close to home for you, why not head to the Telus World of Science to learn a little more about what is beyond at the Space Gallery. If you are a bit more earth oriented you might find the Environment Gallery more interesting. With galleries dedicated to health, forensics, discovery and robotics there should be something for everyone with a few hours between flights.

Fort Edmonton Park

Perhaps stretching your legs while enjoying four different time periods would be a good way to unwind while you are awaiting your onward flight. Fort Edmonton Park is a living history museum that will see you immersed into the past as you wander through the streets of historic Edmonton. With 64 hectares of living history to explore you might wish you had a longer layover just to fit it all in.

West Edmonton Mall

This is retail therapy at its very best. With over 800 outlets to tempt your plastic from your purse, West Edmonton Mall is a must see for any shopping enthusiast. This complex houses an unrivalled combination of shopping, dining and entertainment, over an area covering the equivalent of 48 city blocks. If each person in your party has different ideas of what to do on a long layover in Edmonton, there will be something to appease each of you at West Edmonton Mall. Hop on the Sky Shuttle to be taken directly to the mall.

As always, make sure you leave plenty of time to get back to YEG Edmonton International Airport in time for your connecting flight. Enjoy your transit city rather than whiling away the time leaning up against your luggage in the departures lounge.
