Tallinn Airport

Where is Tallinn Airport?

Tallinn boasts a marvellous, well preserved medieval old town, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Set on a hill, the historical heart of the city is Toompea, charming with its medieval houses and cobblestone streets. Below, the lower town spreads out, still protected by remnants of a city wall, with lovely green parks beyond.

In summer, Old Town Tallinn bustles with tourists, with day trippers from Helsinki (a sister city) and, increasingly, Europeans drawn by cheap flights - and great shopping.

Lennart Meri Tallinn International Airport (IATA: TLL, ICAO: EETN), also known as Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport, and previously named Ülemiste Airport, is usually just referred to as Tallinn Airport. The official name honours Lennart Meri, the leader of the Estonian independence movement and the country's second President. TLL Airport is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Ülemiste, the largest of the lakes that surround Tallinn, and flights routinely take off and land over water.

Tallinn Airport served a record 1,913,172  passengers in 2011, a whopping increase of more than 38% over 2010. TLL was awarded the 2012 Airport Growth Award by anna.aero, in the 1-2 million passenger category; it's easy to see why.

Of all capital cities in the European Union, Tallinn is geographically located nearest to the Asia Pacific region, giving Tallinn Airport a major advantage in serving long-haul flights between these two regions. TLL is the 2nd busiest airport in the Baltic states (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania), the busiest being Riga International Airport (RIX).

Home of the national airline, Estonian Air, the airport's busiest carrier,  TLL is also served by (listed from next busiest) Ryanair, AirBaltic, Finnair, Lufthansa, easyJet, CSA, Norwegian, SmartLynx and Bulgaria Air, among others. Top destinations served are Helsinki, Riga, London, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Frankfurt, Munich, Prague and Amsterdam.

Your best bet for Tallinn Airport transfers is the bus, or the shuttle, depending on where you are headed. Both are geared towards traveller needs, and are beyond cheap.
