A private taxi into town from PAP Port Au Prince International Airport is USD 20-25 depending on how hard you bargain, or walk a few minutes to the main road and flag down a shared taxi for USD 0.40 to USD 1.20, depending on how far you are going, or, if you know what you are doing, take a seat in a taptap (open-backed truck), for USD 0.15, extra charged for large luggage. You will need to change taptaps once or twice to get to most major hotels and this method is not recommended for security reasons. To get to the PAP Port Au Prince International Airport cheaply take a shared taxi from the turning off avenue St-Martin (formerly Avenue François Duvalier) for 3-4 kilometres to Rue Toussaint Louverture where taptaps marked ‘Airport’ gather; USD 0.15 from here and approximately 10 kilometres.
