IHateTaxis.com has a mixed recommendation on the LaGuardia Airport public bus.
If you do not have too much luggage and you are looking for the most inexpensive option, then you should consider taking a La Guardia Airport bus into New York. Otherwise, it's a bit of a hassle.
LaGuardia Airport Public Bus Fares & Payment
A single journey anywhere in the system costs USD 2.50 (using a MetroCard), or USD 2.75 whenever a single-ride ticket is purchased. For passengers using the MetroCard, free transfers are available between buses and subways.
