  • For private Istanbul Airport taxi services, fares run:

    City centre TRY 20-30 ~ travel time around 30-50 minutes
    Bakirköy (for Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn Hotels and the Ferry terminal) TRY 12-14 ~ travel time 10-15 minutes


    Taxis have a fixed rate; the night rate is 50% more expensive than during the daytime. The taxi from Istanbul Airport night rate starts at midnight and lasts until 06:00. If you are riding during the day, makes sure the fare begins at TRY 2.00, the day rate, and NOT TYL 2.90, the night one, as some cheating occurs with tourists. Taximeter will show GÜNDÜZ during the day and GECE during the night. Tip Look at the taximeter during the ride because some drivers try to change the rate.

There are both shared and private Istanbul Airport taxi services available at the IST Istanbul Ataturk Airport.  A taxi from Istanbul Airport is a good option for those on a tight budget or those in need of a fast transfer to their hotel or Istanbul. Shared taxis are known as dolmus and run from outside the Arrivals area of the International Terminal at Istanbul Ataturk Airport. All Istanbul taxis are yellow, except the official Ataturk Airport taxis which are orange.

The Long Route


The taxi takes a huge detour from the Istanbul Ataturk Airport to hotels in the city. Instead of going directly, they take the road by the sea and then through mazes to essentially double the fare. Questioning the driver of this route or having a GPS on will reduce this scam.

 

Yellow Taxis Only


Beware riding a taxi other than the "yellow-coloured" ones since the other-coloured taxis are registered under different cities and have a different rating system.

Be careful on what notes you hand them for payment; some drivers have tried to pretend that the TRY 50 note that was handed handed was just a TRY 5 note.
