MEM Memphis Airport Info & Guide

Memphis International Airport

Where is Memphis Airport? MEM Memphis International Airport (IATA: MEM, ICAO: KMEM, FAA LID: MEM), or simply Memphis Airport, is a joint civil-military public airport located three miles (5 km) south of the central business district of Memphis, a city in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States.

Memphis International Airport serves as a hub for Delta Air Lines, with routes to destinations throughout North America, as well as a daily nonstop flight to Amsterdam. With 9,070,087 passengers in 2011, Memphis Airport was the 44th busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic in the United States.

Memphis Airport is home to the main FedEx Express global "SuperHub", which processes a significant portion of the freight carrier's packages. Until 2009, Memphis had the largest cargo operations by volume of any airport worldwide. Though it fell into second position worldwide in 2010, to Hong Kong, it remains the busiest cargo airport in the United States. MEM is the only airport in North America considered to be an "aerotropolis," an airport-integrated region extending outward from the airport in strings and clusters of airport-linked businesses and their associate residential complexes.
