Washington Dulles International Airport

Where is Washington Dulles Airport?  


Washington Dulles International Airport (IATA: IAD, ICAO: KIAD, FAA LID: IAD), also referred to as Washington Dulles Airport, or simply Dulles Airport, is located in Sterling (Dulles), Virginia, 41.6 kilometres (26 miles) west of downtown Washington, District of Columbia, United States. The airport is named to honour John Foster Dulles, Secretary of State under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The community of Sterling, where the airport is located, has subsequently adopted the Dulles moniker.


In 2013, Washington Dulles Airport served 21,701,353 passengers, making it the 2nd busiest of the three airports serving Washington, D.C. The busiest is Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI). The 3rd airport serving DC is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).


Construction is now underway to connect the airport to Washington via the Silver Line of the Washington Metro. Initial plans called for completion in 2016, however officials now expect to complete construction in 2017.


Washington Dulles Airport is a hub for Frontier Airlines, Silver Airways and United Airlines.
